FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: SAN DIEGO DETOX CENTER
How long does detox take at Akua’s San Diego location?
Detox duration varies by substance, length of use, and individual health factors. Most clinically supervised detox programs last between 5 and 10 days. After a free confidential assessment, your care team will provide a personalized timeline.
Does Akua Mind Body offer same-day admissions for detox in San Diego?
Yes. When space is available, we can often facilitate same-day or next-day admissions at our San Diego facility. Call our 24/7 admissions line at (619) 514-2667 to check current availability.
Is Akua’s San Diego detox program accredited?
Yes. Akua Mind Body is fully licensed by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and holds The Joint Commission (TJC) Gold Seal of Approval, the highest standard of accreditation in behavioral healthcare. Our programs are subject to regular unannounced audits and must meet more than 1,300 performance standards.
Does Akua accept insurance for detox treatment in San Diego?
Yes. Akua Mind Body works with most major commercial insurance carriers and performs same-day insurance verification. Call our team and we will confirm your benefits before you arrive so there are no billing surprises.
Can I detox at Akua if I also have a mental health condition?
Absolutely. Akua specializes in co-occurring disorder treatment, which means we address both substance use disorders and mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder at the same time. Our integrated approach means you do not have to choose between treating one or the other.
What happens after detox is complete?
Detox is the first step in a larger recovery journey. After stabilization, your clinical team will help you transition directly into our residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), or intensive outpatient (IOP) programs. All levels of care are available at Akua facilities in California, so your recovery continues without interruption.
What is clinically supervised detox and why does it matter?
Clinically supervised detox means your withdrawal process is monitored by a trained clinical team, including physicians and nursing staff, throughout your stay. This level of oversight is important because certain substances, including alcohol and benzodiazepines, can produce medically serious withdrawal symptoms that require clinical management. Attempting to detox alone or without proper supervision can be dangerous.
Does Akua Mind Body use medication-assisted treatment (MAT) during detox?
MAT is available at Akua and is offered when clinically appropriate. It is most commonly used to support individuals detoxing from opioids, alcohol, and benzodiazepines. All MAT decisions are made by our clinical team on an individualized basis, in line with current evidence-based practice guidelines.
