Detoxification involves eliminating the drug of addiction for the client’s body in a safe and controlled atmosphere for the client to undergo minimal side effects during this withdrawal period. Medications are often given to ease withdrawal symptoms, especially if the client is addicted to opioids, alcohol, or benzodiazepines, as withdrawal can be brutally painful and life-threatening. Detox, on average, takes 72 hours to a few days to eliminate the drug of abuse from the body. Then the individual can enter into residential care, where therapy can identify underlying triggers associated with the addiction and develop healthy coping strategies that can be used in everyday practice
AKUA’s residential treatment center in Sacramento is an around-the-clock intensive level of care for males and females who struggle with ongoing cravings and need monitoring 24/7 to prevent relapse.
