Flexible Online Intensive Outpatient Care Across California

Virtual IOP gives clients access to structured outpatient treatment through secure online sessions from home or another private setting. Akua’s program is designed for California adults who need more support than weekly therapy, but who may not need residential treatment or around-the-clock monitoring.

Clients can participate through a smartphone, laptop, tablet, or other internet-connected device. Programming may include group therapy, individual therapy, case management, psychiatry support, skills-based education, relapse prevention, and whole-person wellness practices.

Is Virtual IOP Right for You?

Virtual IOP may be appropriate when symptoms, stressors, substance use patterns, or co-occurring concerns are interfering with daily life, but a client can safely participate from a stable home environment. Admissions and clinical team members help determine whether virtual outpatient care, in-person outpatient care, PHP, residential treatment, or another level of care is the right fit.

Support for Mental Health, Substance Use, and Co-Occurring Needs

Akua supports adults navigating mental health concerns, substance use disorders, and co-occurring needs. Treatment recommendations are personalized after an assessment, so each client can receive care aligned with clinical needs, safety, schedule, and recovery goals.

When a Higher Level of Care May Be Needed

Virtual IOP is not the right level of care for every situation. Some clients may need detox, residential treatment, or a partial hospitalization program before stepping down to virtual care. Akua’s admissions process helps identify the safest next step.

What Akua’s Virtual IOP Includes

Akua’s online outpatient programming is built to provide structure, accountability, clinical connection, and practical skills. The exact schedule and services depend on the client’s assessment and personalized clinical recommendation.

Group Therapy and Clinical Programming

Group sessions help clients practice communication, learn coping skills, build insight, and connect with others in a clinically supported setting. Groups may address recovery skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, relationships, stress, and daily life challenges.

Individual Therapy and Case Management

Individual therapy and case management help clients work on personal goals, treatment planning, barriers to care, support systems, and next steps after IOP. These sessions give clients individualized support alongside group programming.

Psychiatry Support During Treatment

When clinically appropriate, psychiatry support may be part of the treatment plan. This can help clients address mental health symptoms, medication-related questions, and ongoing care coordination during outpatient treatment.

CBT, DBT, EMDR-Informed Care, Mindfulness, and Holistic Support

Akua’s East Meets West philosophy brings together evidence-based clinical care and holistic practices. Programming may include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR-informed care, mindfulness, life skills, relapse prevention, family support, yoga-informed practices, meditation, and other whole-person supports when appropriate.

How to Start Virtual IOP With Akua

Starting care begins with a confidential conversation. Akua’s admissions team can answer questions, review treatment needs, explain next steps, and help with insurance verification.

Admissions Consultation

The admissions process starts with a private conversation about what is happening, what type of support may be needed, and whether Akua’s virtual IOP may be a fit.

Insurance Verification

Akua can help clients and families verify insurance and understand coverage options before treatment begins.

Personalized Clinical Recommendation

After assessment, the team can recommend the level of care that best fits the client’s safety, clinical needs, schedule, and goals. If virtual IOP is not the right fit, the team can discuss other options.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

The partial hospitalization program (PHP) at Akua Mind Body is geared toward clients who have successfully completed inpatient drug detoxification and are now ready for structured, focused treatment.

Some clients will undergo substance use treatment at a residential treatment program before they enter into partial hospitalization, but this is not a requirement. It solely depends on the seriousness of the client’s addiction.

Partial hospitalization provides a middle ground between ridged around the clock programming to six hours a day for 6 days a week treatment. All treatment therapies are individually designed for each person’s specific needs with a goal of lasting recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Akua Mind Body is perfect for any and all clients seeking support, accountability, and learning to sustain one’s recovery. Most clients are in the early stages of their recovery and may return to work, school, or other responsibilities on a part-time basis. IOP patients reside locally in a stable environment such as a sober living environment, or at home with supportive loved ones.

Akua Mind Body’s Intensive Outpatient Program is used to address substance use addictions, mental health disorders, or other dependencies that do not require round-the-clock supervision. This enables our clients to continue with their day-to-day lives with the goal of achieving everlasting sobriety.

Individuals who are undergoing intensive outpatient treatment for a substance use disorder are encouraged to engage in community support resources such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) on their own time to build a support network. We here at Akua Mind Body do not just promote AA or NA, we assist clients in finding support through Refuge Recovery, SMART Recovery, or one’s own Spiritual journey to reconnect to their higher power. Just like any other level of care for addiction treatment or mental health, intensive outpatient treatment does require a fully individualized assessment prior to admission.
